Andre Fraser, NSRI Mossel Bay Station Commander, said:At 17h01, Friday, 20 March, NSRI Mossel Bay duty crew were activated following eye-witnes reports of a drowning in progress at Kleinbrak River, Main Beach.The sea rescue craft St Blaze Rescuer was launched and NSRI rescue swimmers and By Grace ambulance services responded.An NSRI rescue swimmer arrived on-scene first to find a man who had been swimming approximately 100 meters off-shore caught in rip currents and being swept out to sea.Our rescue swimmer suited up, and carrying a rescue flotation device, he launched into the surf and reached the man securing him using the flotation device. He then swam him safely to shore through the surfline.At that stage additional NSRI crew and craft were arriving on the scene. The 60 year old man, from Randfontein, was treated for hypothermia. By Grace paramedics checked on him but he required no further assistance after being re-warmed.TO REPORT A SEA RESCUE EMERGENCY DIAL 112 FROM A CELLPHONE
