Supporters of Station 11 had a tee-riffic time for a good cause on 24 November at the 6th annual NSRI Port Alfred Golf Day.

The Kenton Golf Brotherhood and the local Port Alfred golfers can always be relied on to support Station 11’s annual fundraiser, the 6th annual NSRI Port Alfred Golf Day – however, this year attracted a record turnout: 187 golfers arrived to take part!
Players were greeted by the friendly Port Alfred crew, signed in their fourball and each received a unique sponsor-branded golf shirt for the days’ play. Raffle tickets were on sale, and for those players needing a little extra help in the windy conditions, much sought-after mulligans, too.

The weather played ‘ball’ with the golfers enjoying their round, especially the sponsored holes where they participated in fun activities.
The atmosphere at prize giving was festive; there were some highly desired auction items – such as a game drive, a river cruise, and scuba diving experience – and fierce competition amongst the bidders. All the sponsored auction items found happy homes and raised in aid of Station 11 an unprecedented amount of R50 000 on the auction alone, with the total raised over the entire day rising to R115k.

Prize giving, with sponsored items from a long list of local businesses, honoured the top golfers for the day and everyone went home satisfied, after first enjoying some live music by local artist Gary Ford.
“A massive thank you to Port Alfred and the many sponsors, as well as main sponsor Edge Financial Group, for their support,” said Station Commander, Chris Pike. “A special thank you goes to Ed Gutsche, MD of Edge Financial Group, who has played a huge role in sponsoring the Station 11 Golf Days over the past two years, as well as Pink Rescue Buoys around the country. He was also the recipient of the Gold Bravery Award at his years’ NSRI Awards for the saving of four lives at Kelly’s Beach. Thank you Ed!”
