20 Volunteers from various NSRI Rescue Bases around Cape Town are raising funds and awareness for our Drowning Prevention programmes by swimming from Robben Island to Big Bay (Blouberg)
This is the second year that such a group will tackle “The Crossing”, with this year’s swim planned for the end of March – weather and conditions depending. The minimum distance from Robben Island to Big Bay, is 7.5 kms, but due to the currents, wind direction, and the fact that very few people swim in a straight line, swimmers end up achieving varying distances. The difficulty of the swim is also amplified by the cold water of Table Bay. Some swimmers see this as an added challenge and opt to tackle the crossing in nothing more than their swimming costumes – no wetsuit!

We wish all the swimmers everything of the best for the training and we are rooting for a successful swim for everyone. Thank you for undertaking this incredible challenge in aid of the NSRI.
