Recent Platinum Partner Metropolitan Health Group has lent its support to the NSRI’s Water Safety programme.

The NSRI’s Water Safety programme has gone from strength to strength in recent years. It’s main component consists of educating children in a classroom setting about water safety and showing them how they can help others in trouble without endangering themselves. The NSRI also introduced survival swimming courses that aim to teach children and adults the basic swimming skills they need to propel themselves to safety, should they find themselves out of their depth in water.

The schools’ Water Safety programme is run by dedicated facilitators who visit rural primary schools (often located in remote areas) to teach these life-saving water safety lessons. Over the years many stories have emerged of children saving other children and even helping adults using skills they learnt during these lessons.

The programme is making a difference. And we have to thank our loyal sponsors for the contribution they are making to help us “Saving lives, changing lives and creating futures”. One such sponsor is Metropolitan Health Group that came onboard as a Platinum Partner in 2021. Their focus is on contributing towards the schools’ Water Safety programme.

“We contacted them during our Tax Year End Campaign, and our request was forwarded to the company’s CSI department. They asked us for a proposal, which we duly sent them, and they then chose to support our school programme,” explains Stuart Moerdyk, NSRI’s Corporate Relationship and Retail Manager.

NSRI CEO Dr Cleeve Robertson says, “Metropolitan Health, understanding the context of drowning and its impact on the socio-economic climate in South Africa, began to support us as Platinum Partners for the first time in 2021. The WHO lists drowning as the third leading cause of unintentional injury death worldwide, accounting for 7% of all injury-related deaths. Health partners like Metropolitan are key to helping us reduce both morbidity and mortality from drowning.”
