It seems only natural that a company that is dedicated to sustainable practices when it comes to the ocean and the NSRI would end up working together.

The NSRI’s partnership with Sea Harvest, a sustainable seafood brand that has been a staple of South African households for many years, dates back to 2004.

“Sea Harvest came on board on two fronts – they supported our NSRI Golf days as Sea Harvest Corporation and the Sea Harvest Foundation has supported us as corporate partners since 2004, first as Gold Partners and then in 2021 they came on board as Platinum Partners,” Stuart Moerdyk, Retail & Corporate Relationship Manager for the NSRI, recalls.

The Sea Harvest group harvests wild-caught seafood off the coasts of South Africa, Mozambique and Australia and processes it into a variety of chilled and frozen seafood products.

“There is so much synergy between the NSRI and Sea Harvest, so I think it was only natural that a relationship would emerge,” Stuart says. “As a fishing company, Sea Harvest obviously depends entirely on the sea. The sea poses certain risks to their staff and crews who all go out to sea to obtain the assets that they need. In a way, Sea Rescue is like “insurance” for their crews. Having said that, our mandate is to save lives on South African waters, whether they are partners of ours or not.”

Sea Harvest’s annual donation is allocated to the Saldanha region up the West Coast, specifically in support of Station 4, Mykonos.
