The blessing of a new vessel before it goes to sea is time honoured tradition and one that the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is no stranger to. Recently supporters, donors, crew, and distinguished guests gathered at NSRI Hout Bay to bless the new rescue vessel ‘Spirit of Gabi’.
The generous bequest from the Estate of Late: Gabrielle Jacqueline De Bie made this all possible in loving memory of Gabrielle (known as Gabi to her family, loved ones, and friends).
Gabi bravely fought a 2-year battle against bone cancer and her friends and family say that her love for the sea and nature was infinite and was evident from an early age.
In tribute to Gabi’s life, this new vessel will help the volunteer rescue crew of NSRI Hout Bay to save even more lives.
The NSRI’s JetRIB is a unique rescue craft and a complete game changer for rescues in the surf.
The NSRI would like to express its grateful thanks to the generous bequest from the Estate Late: Gabrielle Jacqueline De Bie in support of the wonderful work of saving lives.
It is supporters, like Gabi, that choose to leave a legacy gift to the NSRI in their Wills that are so incredibly important to the NSRI that is predominately publicly funded.
