At 09h46, Friday, 17 September, NSRI Yzerfontein duty crew and the SA Police Services were activated following reports from a local fishing vessel that they were heading towards Yzerfontein harbour with 8 crew onboard of which 2 crewmen were suspected to be deceased.
NSRI medics met the vessel on her arrival at Yzerfontein Harbour and a doctor, who happened to be at the harbour at the time, assisted. 2 adult male crewman of the fishing vessel were sadly confirmed to be deceased.
Police attended at the scene and investigations are underway.
The bodies of the 2 deceased men were taken into the care of WC Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
Condolences are conveyed to the families of the 2 deceased fishermen.
