A teenager is missing at Palmiet Lagoon, and in a separate incident police are appealing for any information that may shed light on an event at Draadbaai in Betty’s Bay, where it is suspected that two men may have been swept off the rocks by waves.

On Sunday, 1 February, Police WPDS (Water Policing and Diving Services), assisted by NSRI Kleinmond and Overstrand Law Enforcement, continued in ongoing search efforts for a male teenager who went missing in the Palmiet Lagoon on Saturday.

In another incident on Saturday at Draadbaai, Betty's Bay, Police are appealing for information that can assist in investigations where it was suspected that 2 men may have been in difficulties along the shoreline - Kleinmond Police station: 0282718200.

At 12h25, Saturday, 31 January, NSRI Kleinmond duty crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at the Palmiet Day Camp, Palmiet Lagoon.

NSRI rescue swimmers, WC Government Health EMS and an EMS Metro Rescue Drone Unit, the SA Police Services, Overstrand Fire and Rescue Services, Overstrand Law Enforcement and Overstrand Traffic Services responded.

The NSRI rescue craft Sea Ranger 5 was launched.

On arrival on the scene search efforts commenced for a male teenager, age 16, from Caledon, who had gone missing in the water while swimming.

Police WPDS (Water Policing and Diving Services) were activated by Kleinmond Police and joined in ongoing search efforts.palm

Despite extensive search efforts, including sweeping line free dive search efforts, no signs of the missing teenager was located on Saturday.

In an ongoing search operation led by Police WPDS, on Sunday, 1 February, NSRI Kleinmond launched the NSRI rescue craft Sea Ranger 5 and conducted a full perimeter search around Palmiet Lagoon on Sunday morning - in ongoing search efforts for the teenager.

Police divers (WPDS) conducted scuba dive search efforts while NSRI rescue swimmers assisted in sweeping line free dive search efforts and the NSRI rescue craft conducted surface water search efforts.

Despite extensive ongoing search efforts on Sunday there remains no signs of the teenager.

Police divers (WPDS) will continue in ongoing search efforts.

Thoughts and care are with the family of the missing teenager in this difficult time.

Station 17 Hermanus and Station 42 Kleinmond at Betty's Bay

On Saturday, 31 January, at 13h41, while search efforts continued at Palmiet Lagoon, NSRI Kleinmond duty crew were activated following reports of a suspected drowning in progress at Draadbaai, Betty's Bay.

A local lady, an eyewitness, suspected that 2 men, who were seen on rocks on the shoreline, may have been in distress and may have been swept off rocks by waves.

NSRI Kleinmond rescue swimmers, the NSRI Kleinmond rescue vehicle, the SA Police Services, WC Government Health EMS and Overstrand Law Enforcement responded.

NSRI Hermanus dispatched the NSRI rescue craft Leonard Smith while NSRI Kleinmond dispatched the NSRI rescue craft Sprit of Surfski 2.

The EMS/AMS Skymed rescue helicopter was activated by EMS Metro Control.

On arrival on the scene an extensive sea, air and shoreline search revealed no signs of any persons in distress.

There remains no missing persons report that may be related to this case at Betty's Bay.

Police are appealing for information that can assist in investigations related to this case, at Draadbaai, Betty's Bay, where it was suspected that 2 men may have been in difficulties along the shoreline on Saturday afternoon - Kleinmond Police station: 0282718200.
