OPERATION CENTRE (EOC)

This past weekend our crew at NSRI Wilderness and the local lifeguards had a training session together. About 15 lifeguards were present and divided into two groups. They started with some orientation around our 4.2m vessels and then proceeded to launch 2 x 4.2m vessels. One group did a rip current swim and practised some rescue techniques after swimming to the backline. While at the backline they did some crew pick ups and practised getting a casualty into a 4.2. They then needed to swim back to the beach through the surf. The second group, while waiting for their turn to swim, carried on with some medical training on the beach led by Richard Botha and Patrick Njokweni. Richard Botha is the rescue manager for the Eden district and Patrick Njokweni his second in command. They went through some medical scenarios and practised their CPR drills. The two groups then rotated. Our crew also took part in the medical scenarios and rotated crew on the two 4.2m vessels.Images: NSRI Wilderness Their was some 'goeie gees'as well.
