FISH HOEK:Darren Zimmerman, NSRI Simonstown station commander, said:At 17h51, Saturday, 30th June, NSRI Simonstown duty crew and CMR (Cape Medical Response) were activated following reports from WC Government Health EMS Metro Control of a suspected non-fatal drowning accident in front of the Sunny Cove Railway Station along the Fish Hoek Cat Walk.We dispatched a rescue vehicle and CMR dispatched a paramedic response vehicle and an ambulance and WC Government Health EMS remained on alert to send resources if required.On arrival on the scene we found a local 50 year old female who may have fallen into the surf off rocks before she was rescued by bystanders from the surf.She was slightly hypothermic and we arranged for her to be driven home and she required no further assistance.2 local bystanders, 15 year old Tristan o'Brien and his 25 year old cousin Glen Oakes, who were at home on the Main Road overlooking the sea had noticed what they at first thought to be a seal in the water in fading light.They looked through binoculars when they realised that what they were seeing was a lady in the water and they rushed down to the waters edge and Tristan jumped into the surf, wading over rocks in waist high water and he grabbed the lady and assisted by Glen they were able to get her out of the water onto rocks and they raised the alarm.Tristan and Glen are commended for their efforts in saving the lady from drowning.DURBAN:Andre Fletcher, NSRI Durban station commander, said:At 19h16, Saturday, 30th June, NSRI Durban duty crew were alerted by Netcare 911 ambulance services of a boat suspected to have capsized in the surf at Vetches Beach next to Durban harbour entrance.Netcare 911 paramedics were responding to the scene and NSRI Durban dispatched a rescue crew in our sea rescue vehicle while preparing to launch a sea rescue craft and Metro Police were dispatched.On arrival on the scene it was found that a 9 meter charter fishing boat with 13 crew onboard had reportedly beached at high speed causing an adult male to suffer back injuries and 8 crew to suffer minor injuries.Netcare 911 paramedics were in attendance and the injured man, believed to be aged in his 50's, has been transported to hospital by Netcare 911 ambulance in a stable condition.A further 8 crew of the boat were treated for minor injuries and they have been transported to hospital for medical care.The SA Police Services attended the scene and an investigation into the boat running aground is under investigation.The casualty boat was re-floated at the Spring high tide by the owner and the casualty boat has been recovered.Teas and Tours
