Picture Andrew Ingram / Sea RescueMONWABISI:Vaughn Seconds, NSRI Strandfontein station commander, said:At 08h01, Sunday, 25th March, NSRI Strandfontein duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following reports from Metro Control (WC Government Health EMS) of a drowning at Monwabisi.2 NSRI sea rescue craft Grand West CSI and Film Industry Rescuer 1 were launched and NSRI rescue swimmers in a sea rescue vehicle, a Fire and Rescue Services dive unit, a Police dive unit, WC Government Health EMS, the SA Police Services and Law Enforcement responded to join a Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services fire tender that was already on the scene.On arrival on the scene we found 1 adult male was out of the water and confirmed to be deceased and 2 adult males remained missing in the surf.It appears that the 3 men may have been swept out to sea by rip currents during a baptism ceremony in the surf.During an extensive sea and shoreline search a Police dive unit located and recovered the body of one of the missing men and Police divers are continuing an ongoing search operation for the remaining missing man.The bodies of the 2 deceased males have been taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.Police have opened an inquest docket.Condolences are conveyed to family.SCARBOROUGH:Ian Klopper, NSRI Kommetjie station commander, said:At 09h00, Sunday, 25th March, NSRI Kommetjie duty crew launched the sea rescue craft Spirit of the Vines following eye-witness reports of a body floating off-shore of Scarborough.On arrival on the scene the body of an adult woman was recovered onto our sea rescue craft from the water 150 meters off-shore of Scarborough and NSRI paramedics confirmed the woman to be deceased from a suspected fatal drowning accident.We brought the body to our NSRI Kommetjie sea rescue station and it has been taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.Police have opened an inquest docket.Condolences are conveyed to family.
