At 17h05, Thursday, 21st December, NSRI Richards Bay duty crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at Naval Island Beach in the Port of Richards Bay.NSRI rescue swimmers arrived on the scene to find Ice Medical and Rescue already on the scene and a woman, aged in her 30's had been declared deceased by paramedics.A 14 year old girl was transported to hospital by ambulance in a critical condition.Both women had reportedly been rescued from the water by bystanders. It is believed that the incident occurred at around 16h30.The body of the deceased lady was taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services and Police have opened an inquest docket.NSRI convey condolences to family and friends.
