Johnathan Bakker, NSRI Kommetjie station commander, said:At 12h32, Saturday, 19 June, NSRI Kommetjie duty crew were activated following reports of a RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) capsized at Soetwater with reportedly 5 local fishermen onboard.NSRI Hout Bay were placed on alert.NSRI Kommetjie crew responded directly to the scene where we found a capsized boat in the shore break.Casualty crew members were found coming ashore and one man was found to be unresponsive and four crew were suffering hypothermia.CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) efforts were commenced on the one man.CMR (Cape Medical Response) and CoCT (City of Cape Town) Fire and Rescue Services responded.Despite extensive efforts to resuscitate the man sadly he was declared deceased on the scene by paramedics.4 men were treated for hypothermia on the scene.Their capsized boat was recovered by NSRI Kommetjie crew.The body of the deceased man was taken into the care of WC Government Health Forensic Pathology Services and Police have opened an inquest docket.Condolences are conveyed to the family of the deceased man.-ENDS-
