At 11h17, Thursday, 1 January, NSRI Knysna duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from NSRI Knysna lifeguards at Leisure Isle, Knysna, reporting CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) efforts in progress on an adult male that the NSRI Knysna lifeguards had rescued from the water.
NSRI Knysna medical crew and ER24 ambulance services responded.
NSRI Knysna medics arriving on the scene assisted the NSRI Knysna lifeguards in conducting CPR on the 13-year-old male, and during CPR efforts, a pulse was restored.
ER24 paramedics took over care of the teenager, who was transported to the hospital in a serious but stable condition by ER24 ambulance.
The teenager, believed to be a local, appears to have suffered a medical condition while swimming. Lifeguards noticed the teenager appearing to be in distress in the water. They immediately raised the alarm while responding and rescued the teenager to the shore, where they began CPR.
The NSRI Knysna lifeguards are commended for their swift efforts that contributed to the teenager's life being saved.
