(Follow-up: 28th December) A stand-up paddle boarder who was feared to be in difficulty yesterday on Durban’s shore front made it safely ashore at around 13h00 27th December and immediately called a sea rescue emergency number to confirm that he was ashore and safe. However the message was not passed on to sea rescue commanders engaged in the search until this morning and the reasons for this will be investigated. It appears that the stand-up paddle boarder knew the sea rescue services would be searching for him after he was swept fast across the shore front quite far out to sea and he made every effort to inform sea rescue of his safe return to land but the information was not passed on to sea rescue resources actively engaged in the search. The NSRI wish to thank all media agencies that assisted by broadcasting a request for information.
