Sponsorship has been found for the Melkbosstrand volunteers who are to receive awards for their part in the dramatic Seli 1 rescue of 25 men in November 2009.Thanks to a generous sponsorship by Calulo Shipping , and Sturrock Shipping, crewmen Kobus Meyer, Kim Germishuys and Coxswain Myck Jubber will be able to travel to London to personally receive an International Maritime Organization (IMO) commendation at a Gala Function on the 24th November.Sturrock MD, Andrew Sturrock, and Ships Agency Director, Clive James, read in the online publication PORTS & SHIPS (www.ports.co.za)* that there were not enough funds for all three crew to travel to London to receive their award ... and decided to do something about it.“As proudly South African companies having extensive dealings in sea affairs around the globe, and knowing the good work done by South Africa’s NSRI volunteers, Calulo and ourselves (Sturrock) are well aware of how prestigious an award this is to receive from the IMO.“Andrew Sturrock, Bryn Ressell of Calulo and I, after reading that Myck Jubber would have to go alone ... agreed to get all three to the IMO Awards Gala.“This award is something special and all South Africans can be proud of our three Sea Rescue volunteers who are showcasing the general attitude and dedication of all of South Africa’s Sea Rescue volunteers,”said Clive.“The brave actions of these volunteers have done South Africa proud.“Receiving recognition from the International Maritime Organisation highlights the esteem in which our rescue services are held by the international seafaring community, and we believe it is only fitting that the three of them should be able to travel to London to accept the IMO citations in person, and to this end we, along with our partners at Calulo, are glad to be able to assist,” he said.*Special thanks also goes to Terry Hutson, Editor and Publisher at Ports Media for his role as the vital link in this chain.
