A busy weekend on the water saw NSRI Table Bay crews respond to two separate yacht emergencies, where quick thinking and coordinated teamwork ensured the safe return of both vessels and their crews

Over the weekend, NSRI Table Bay responded to two separate sailing yacht incidents involving motor mechanical failure.

On Friday, 10 April at 17h30, while on duty at Station 3, our crew intercepted communications between a local sailing yacht and TNPA Port Control. The yacht, with two crew onboard, had suffered motor failure while en route to Dassen Island for a regatta but managed to sail back into Table Bay Harbour.

At 17h35, the rescue craft Spirit of Day was launched. We rendezvoused with the vessel in Duncan Docks and safely escorted her to her moorings at the Royal Cape Yacht Club without incident.

On Sunday, 12 April at 05h43, we were alerted to a 35-foot sailing yacht experiencing motor failure offshore of Camps Bay. NSRI Bakoven was placed on alert while our crew launched DHL Deliverer and Spirit of Day.

A towline was established, and after holding position outside the Port of Table Bay to allow a tanker to enter, the yacht was brought safely into harbour and assisted to her moorings.
