On 14 November, we had the blessing of the new 8.8m RIB at Station 5 Durban, Spirit of Surfski 6. In 2007, Billy Harker, got the Surfski community to join hands and support NSRI after paddler Casper Kruger was rescued in False Bay. An extensive and nail-biting sea and air search was launched for Casper when he failed to make the finish of a race in Gordon’s Bay. He was eventually found nearly seven hours later, clinging to his ski just as the sunset. This incident inspired members of the Surfski community to donate to NSRI via a monthly debit order and their contributions have totalled over R6.7 million to date.
