Anton Bredell, Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning in the Western Cape handed a cheque for R 376 000 each to Sea Rescue and Western Cape Lifesaving at a ceremony held at Station 9 Gordon's Bay (Yacht Club) this morning.

In his speech the Minister thanked Lifesaving WC and Sea Rescue volunteers for risking their lives to save lives. He further expressed that both organizations not only do they save lives, but also create hope through teaching water safety.

NSRI CEO Dr. Cleeve Robertson thanked the WC Disaster management team for their continued support over the years. This year's funds from the donation will be used towards Lifeguarding. They will purchase two quad bikes that will be destined for Paternoster & Saldanha Bay; an automatic external defibrillator will be purchased, and it will be destined for Laingeville in St Helena Bay and lastly two Malibu boards will be bought and they will be destined for Laingeville & Noetzi (Knysna). “A special thank you to all our volunteers who continuously dedicate their time to saving lives. You provide a safety net for all water users,” he said.

The day ended with the blessing of Station 9 Gordon’s Bay new JetRib (rigid inflatable boat) Zelda. The JetRib is a new vessel sponsored by Western Cape Disaster Management.
