NSRI commend a Good Samaritan, a male, who we believe rescued 2 children at Casuarina Beach on Sunday, 10 March.

At approximately 11h45 a call came in to NSRI Ballito from an eyewitness reporting 2 swimmers, children, appearing to be in distress, at Casuarina beach, La Mercy, KZN North Coast.

Our NSRI Ballito crew were diverted from a routine training exercise to respond to Casuarina Beach, La Mercy.

Our waver runner rescue jet ski was dispatched to the location, with a rescue swimmer onboard, followed closely by the our NSRI rescue craft JetRib JayTee 3.

On arrival on the scene our rescue craft beached where a large group of people had gathered where it was confirmed by eye-witnesses that 2 young children who were in difficulty in the surf had been rescued from the water by a male, believed to be a local, Good Samaritan, who had entered the water and successfully rescued the 2 children to shore and he had reportedly then reunited them with their adult minder.

They were not injured in the incident.

Our NSRI craft returned to Salmon Bay to be recovered to return to base.

NSRI commend the swift response and we commend the unidentified Good Samaritan for his efforts that we believe saved the 2 children.

NSRI also commend the "launch team" at Salmon Bay who assisted NSRI in the launching and recovery of our rescue craft.
