Jonathan Kellerman, NSRI Durban station commander, said:At 16h22, Sunday, 13 June, NSRI Durban duty crew were activated following reports from Umhlanga Lifesaving lifeguards who had launched an aquatic safety powercraft to assist 2 men on a sinking fishing ski 300 meters off-shore of Umhlanga Beach.The sea rescue craft Spirit of Surfski 6 was launched and 3 NSRI Durban crew, on their private fishing ski's, also diverted to paddle to the area to join Umhlanga lifeguards on the scene.Umhlanga lifeguards rescued both men, locals, to the beach and they were not injured.Umhlanga lifeguards and NSRI Durban crew stood by at the casualty fishing ski and on the arrival of the sea rescue craft the casualty fishing ski was recovered and brought to our NSRI Durban sea rescue station where it was collected by the 2 casualties.NSRI commend the swift response of the Umhlanga lifeguards.
